Now listen to a story 'bout a man name Dave,
A poor city feller' with a video craze.
And then one day while he was shootin' at some food,
Out from his lens popped some Wired Barbeque...
Smoked, that is, real slow...
Hi, Dave here. Some people ask me "Why are you so interested in barbeque? Are you a cook?" Well, yeah, I can cook a pretty mean limone sauce, or stuffed artichoke, but I had never slow smoked anything. I LIKE barbeque, but it wasn't until a friend, Jim, (best chicken wings I have ever tasted), taught me how to slow cook ribs that I knew anything about it. However, I did know video production and before I knew it, the two fused together.
I started all this about three years ago while taking and assisting an internet class. We took an assignment for our school news cast to do a story on Jazz and barbeque. We did the jazz piece, which turned out really well, but as we were gathering the barbeque footage, the direction of our presentation shifted toward politics (it was college, whatta ya gonna do?)
But I had all this great barbeque footage!
While lamenting this fact to a friend and fellow production type, Kirby, who designed this very web site (big round of applause), we viewed the footage and immediately sensed that this was something to pursue. I mean, the reaction we got was simply amazing! You turn a camera on people cooking and, well, let's just say you run out of tape real fast.
Jennifer was our first Wired Host, and she was great. We traversed stadium parking lots, fairgrounds, The Phoenix Piano Bar (where Wired Barbeque was actually launched), and gathered more unbelievable footage with the hopes of a live interactive web site.
Then NASDAQ decided to go belly up. And no wonder, look at the crap they put up back then. With all that technological prowess, all they could come up with are chat rooms, cartoons and games. I cried foul! There must be more to it than that!
So, we set out to prove ourselves as an entertainment site on the web; the next televison; the new internet. And we brazenly set forth to change the horizon as we saw it...
Unfortunately, the horizon was mirky and the money was scared and Wired Barbeque went onto the shelf and the footage stayed dark and Dave went back to work editing television news...UNTIL NOW!
That was the year 2000, Ladies and Gentlemen, and THIS is a new era of internet entertainment and we are WIREDBARBEQUE.COM. |
